Education & Literacy Program

Rebuilding learning spaces, strengthening teachers, and helping children read early so no child is forced out of school.

Why Education & Literacy Matters

Access to quality education remains a major challenge in rural and conflict-affected communities. Many children are forced out of school due to abandoned infrastructure, displacement, poverty, and lack of trained teachers

The ability to read and write is the foundation for lifelong learning and opportunity. At the Centre for Youth and Sustainable Development (CYSD Cameroon), we believe that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through our literacy and education programs, we provide vulnerable and displaced children with safe learning spaces, trained teachers, and essential learning materials to help them build strong reading and writing skills.
Since our establishment, CYSD has supported 5000+ children to return to school and regain hope for a better future.

Key Challenges we Address: * Early school dropout rates are extremely high in rural areas. * Children who cannot read early are more likely to leave school permanently. * Education is a critical pathway out of poverty and long-term dependency.

Temporary & New Learning Spaces

In conflict-affected and hard-to-reach communities, in the northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon,  we construct temporary and low-cost learning spaces to ensure education continues even during displacement.
