“Educaton is the key to unlocking a world of possibilities for every child”

Community School Project

Cameroon, a bilingual country with English and French as its official languages, has faced significant educational challenges, especially in the English-speaking regions of the Northwest and Southwest. Since 2016, these regions have been embroiled in a crisis, stemming from socio-political tensions between the government and separatist groups. This conflict has severely impacted the educational sector, leading to school closures, the destruction of educational infrastructure, and threats to students and educators. As a result, 596,000 school-age children, including 156,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), are in dire need of educational support. The conflict has escalated to violent confrontations, further jeopardizing the safety and accessibility of education in these regions.

The primary challenges include:

  • Insecurity and violence preventing school attendance.
  • Financial barriers hindering access to education.
  • Insufficient qualified teachers.
  • High number of out-of-school children.
  • Psychological trauma affecting students and teachers.
  • Lack of educational resources and infrastructure

To mitigate the educational disruptions caused by the crisis, CYSD has established temporary learning spaces and reopened formal schools in some affected villages. These efforts have provided educational opportunities to over 1,700 internally displaced children. Additionally, we’ve distributed learning materials and supported community schools to enhance educational access despite the ongoing conflict. Sponsor a child today
