Powering, equipping, and protecting resilient communities.
Through solar-powered street lighting, hands-on vocational skills training, and dignity support for women and girls, we help underserved communities become safer, more self-reliant, and resilient for the long term.
Light for Safe Communities Programme
The programme installs solar-powered street lights in underserved and off-grid communities to improve public safety, reduce the risk of crime and accidents, and support evening economic and social activities.
It enables women, children, and other community members to move safely after dark. By using clean, renewable energy, the programme also contributes to sustainable community development and climate action.
Vocational skills that create work, not just qualifications.
Across Cameroon, many youth, including secondary school dropouts and recent graduates, leave the education system without a practical trade to fall back on. Unemployment pushes young people toward instability, migration, or dependency, even when they are capable and willing to work.
CYSD's vocational training programs close that gap. Each program is built around a real, in-demand trade, so that every graduate leaves with a concrete skill they can use immediately, either through employment or by starting their own small business.
Solar Energy Installation Training
We train youth in solar power installation, covering the practical skills needed to safely install and maintain solar systems. Upon completing the program, trainees can go on to work for a solar energy company or launch their own small entrepreneurial venture in renewable energy, turning a hands-on skill into a lasting livelihood.
Outcome: Employment or self-owned solar venture
Electronics & Repairs Training
We train youth in the repair and maintenance of everyday electronics, including laptops, phones, and televisions. Upon completing the program, a graduate can open their own repair shop, creating a reliable means of employment right within their own community.
Outcome: Self-owned electronics repair shop
Home Electrical Wiring Training
We train youth, especially secondary school dropouts who once studied electrical power systems, in basic home electrical wiring. This program helps young people build practical, hands-on skills they can put to real use, whether continuing their education or entering the workforce directly.
Outcome: Practical wiring skills for immediate use
Building & Construction Training
We train youth and graduates in construction skills relevant to Cameroon's growing building sector. This training acts as a reliable source of income for the individual, their family, and their wider community, while contributing to safer, better-built homes and infrastructure.
Outcome: Income through skilled construction work
Dress Making & Hair Dressing
We equip girls and women with practical vocational skills, entrepreneurship knowledge, and business development support in dress making and hair dressing. This training helps improve their income and build long-term economic security.
Outcome: Income and entrepreneurship for women & girlsDignity, confidence, and future readiness for women and girls.
Girls in underserved and crisis-affected communities continue to face barriers related to menstrual dignity, confidence, online exploitation risks, and limited life planning support.
This program equips women and girls with dignity resources, safety awareness, self-confidence, and future readiness support, helping them navigate these challenges and build a secure path forward.
