Education & Literacy Program

Rebuilding Learning. Restoring Hope.

Access to quality education remains a major challenge in rural and conflict-affected communities. Many children are forced out of school due to abandoned infrastructure, displacement, poverty, and lack of trained teachers. Through our Education & Literacy Program, we work to rebuild safe learning environments, strengthen community teaching capacity, and ensure children learn to read early—before they are pushed out of school.

What We Do

1. Rebuilding Abandoned Schools

We rehabilitate abandoned and damaged school buildings in underserved communities, restoring them into safe, functional learning spaces. This helps children return to school and rebuilds trust in community education systems.

Activities include:

  • Structural repairs and classroom rehabilitation
  • Provision of basic furniture and learning materials
  • Community-led school restoration initiatives

2. Temporary & New Learning Spaces for Displaced Children

In conflict-affected and hard-to-reach communities, many children have no classrooms at all. We construct temporary and low-cost learning spaces to ensure education continues even during displacement.

Impact:

  • Immediate access to education for displaced children
  • Reduced learning interruptions
  • Safe, child-friendly spaces for learning and psychosocial support

3. Community Teacher Workshops

Quality education depends on empowered teachers. We organize capacity-building workshops for community and volunteer teachers, focusing on practical teaching skills and child-centered learning.

Training areas include:

  • Basic pedagogy and classroom management
  • Literacy instruction for early grades
  • Supporting children affected by trauma and displacement

4. Early Grade Literacy Program

Many children in rural communities reach upper primary school without being able to read. This leads to frustration, repetition, and eventually early school dropout. Our literacy program focuses on helping children read early and read well.

Program goals:

  • Improve reading and comprehension skills in early grades
  • Support struggling learners with remedial reading sessions
  • Reduce early school dropout rates in rural communities

Why This Matters

  • Early school dropout rates are extremely high in rural areas
  • Children who cannot read early are more likely to leave school permanently
  • Education is a critical pathway out of poverty and long-term dependency

By restoring schools, supporting teachers, and strengthening literacy, we give children a real chance to stay in school and succeed.

Who Benefits

  • Children in rural and conflict-affected communities
  • Displaced and out-of-school children
  • Community and volunteer teachers
  • Families and entire communities

Our Impact Vision

A future where every child regardless of location or circumstance has access to safe learning spaces, skilled teachers, and the ability to read and learn with confidence.
